Built to Last - Part 2

February 24th 2022

The last update for the 1100 Cloverdale was Oct. 28th, 2019. This mixer was put in service July 2015, had mixed 19,264 loads and approximately 429,419,910 lbs. of feed at that point. The goal of the first report and this follow up report is to document the wear process of a Cloverdale mixer and to confirm the confidence we have in our 5,000 load or 5-year warranty. (Frame, side walls, floor and augers. See written warranty.) This unit is well past the written warranty, but we will continue to track the wear.

The augers failed on Oct. 28th, 2019 and were replaced with new augers and the optional hard surfacing. Factory Stainless Steel liners were installed on January 13th, 2020.

The replacement augers have mixed fourteen loads per day for 849 days, for a total of 11,886 loads. There are 441,000 lbs. of feed mixed daily, so these augers have mixed 374,409,000 lbs. of feed.

Picture 1 shows the area with the most auger wear. Picture 2 shows the bottom auger, plow wing and baffle with normal wear.

The liners were installed on January 13th, 2020 and have 10,808 loads and approximately 340,452,000 lbs. of feed processed through them. As expected, there is normal wear at the RH door edge. The stainless-steel baffle is starting to develop a crack and should be repaired. It is not separating from the floor and crack is only an 8” section in the baffle. There may have been an issue with this part during the fabrication.

The original mixer has processed approximately 31,150 loads and 803,828,910 lbs. of feed. The floor and frame appear to show normal wear. It has the original planetary gear boxes, frame, and side walls.

There are an additional 98 loads and approximately 3,087,000 lbs. of feed mixed each week from this February 24th, 2022 report.
